The Beautiful South: The Royal Albert Hall, London
Phil Sutcliffe, MOJO, June 1997
PLAINLY NOT RUGGED T-SHIRT-IN-A-SNOW-storm northerners, The Beautiful South's vocal frontline take to the stage for their second night at the RAH in a winter collection of leather coat (Jackie Abbott), fisherman's smock (Dave Hemingway), and high-tog duvet anorak with daft flap-eared furry hat (Paul Heaton). This would go down as endearingly uncool were they not about to play such an erratic, often slack, show.
