The Beginning Of The End
John Abbey, Blues & Soul, July 1971
"NASSAU'S GONE funky; Nassaus's gone Soul" is how the Beginning Of The End bounce into the history-making hit, 'Funky Nassau'. History? This is the best selling record of all time in Nassau, Bahamas, and the four young men who make up the Beginning Of The End in fact sport British passports because they were all born in Nassau, a British colony just off the coast of Florida and a favourite haunt of the rich American and – to a lesser extent – British tourists. When the record was originally issued in Nassau, it sold over 20,000 in the first four weeks and when you consider that the total population only slightly exceeds 200,000, that's not bad going.
