LAST YEAR, when the Doobie Brothers made their recording debut with Warner Brothers, there was little reaction either at the time of the release of during the subsequent months. In fairness, the album didnt warrant more than cursory attention, but this time round the band — strengthened by new members — had every right to expect people to sit up and take notice.
