The Pretenders: Let's Pretend…
Nick Kent, NME, 17 March 1979
"ISN'T IT incredible, my dears, what some people will do when they get a hit? I'm appalled to hear that journalist-for-a-day Chrissie Hynde, lead singer of little known pop combo The Pretenders, has begun to behave somewhat like Farrah Fawcett Majors (34) the American pin-up girl. What seemed like only a day after their admittedly catchy single entered the charts, I hear that Chrissie immediately began to refuse all offers of being interviewed despite stern protests from their record company.
