The Spyro Gyra Interview

ALMOST A dozen years ago, a small sign appeared outside a Buffalo club announcing, "Tuesday Night — Jazz Jam." In effect, it was also announcing the birth of Spyro Gyra, one of the more durable institutions spawned during the heyday of fusion. Saxman Jay Beckenstein, tired of club dates and top 40 gigs and seeking a more venturesome venue, started those jam sessions with high school buddy Jeremy Wall, whose writing remains an essential part of Spyro Gyra's character.
