ALONGSIDE ECHO & THE Bunnymen, The Teardrop Explodes were the focal point for Liverpool's emerging post-punk new wave scene. According to the group's linchpin Julian Cope, the band were formed because of the classic track 'Louie Louie' – "We were going to be the first intellectual group coming from that direction."
