THE ENGLISH NEW WAVE appears to be firmly rooted in the politics of frustration. It should be no shock that the acutely class-conscious British have spawned bands capable of social and political analysis. There should be nothing extraordinary about the Clash talking about political repression, cultural dictatorship and police brutality, nor about the Sex Pistols’ rantings against the System and its Culture.
