WHEN WHITESNAKE first hit the road six months ago (with Brian Johnston on keyboards) the generally buoyant Coverdale let out one cry of pain to Pete Makowski in a Sounds feature: "It seems the media have become alienated from my music, which comes from the heart, and they call it heavy metal – not even human, not even flesh and blood."
