World Party: At Shepherd's Bush Empire
Johnny Black, MOJO, September 1997
"I WISH he'd stop wiping his nose," moans the guy in the next seat. Even without his nasal hygiene tic, the object of this punterly disapprobation is quite possible the world's least charismatic vocalist. He is Paul Bardsley, formerly of Molly Half Head, now fronting support band Wireless, and he seems to grunt "Fuck you" at the end of every song. Logic suggest he's actually saying "Thank you", but who knows? The band, a sturdy, musicianly quartet, work hard, but he of the perma-drip proboscis appears even less interested in his songs that the audience does.
