Zal Yanovsky
Dave DiMartino, MOJO, March 2003
ZAL YANOVSKY, to many the man who provided that special spark of magic in The Lovin' Spoonful, died of a heart attack on December 13 near his Kingston, Ontario farm at the age of 58. An exceptional guitarist whose singular playing style remains under-appreciated, Yanovsky was one of the most memorable characters in all of '60s pop – a colourful foil to the Spoonful's major songwriter John Sebastian, uniformly remembered by his friends as a whirlwind of hyperactive energy.
