Bad Company: Straight Shooter (Swan Song)
Bud Scoppa, Phonograph Record, June 1975
Bad Company came in with a literal bang: Simon Kirkes drum-shot opening to Cant Get Enough (the first track on the first album, and subsequently the first hit single) erupts with startling intensity, and when Mick Ralphs equally visceral chorded guitar joins Kirkes drums, the raw, focused fury of the record is breathtaking. Cant Get Enough made everything else on the radio sound positively tame; when it came along, other rock & roll records suddenly lost their immediacy.
