IN THE LATE SIXTIES, Brian Wilson used to practice Transcendental Meditation. There, in the purple and gold silk Arabian tent that he had installed in his Beverly Hills mansion, along with the famous sand-pit, Wilson would chant his mantra, in the moments when he wasn't ingesting copious amounts of marijuana and psychedelics, and fretting over the creative muse which seemed to have deserted him.
