David Sylvian
Ken Scrudato, Surface, April 2001
WHEN, IN 1987, David Sylvian sang the words, "I wrestle with an outlook on life, that shifts between darkness and shadowy light," he spoke of an internal struggle which, at the time, was clearly getting the better of him. The former frontman of post-glam gods Japan, once labled the "prettiest man in the world" by Rolling Stone and noted for his decadent lifestyle, was trying to escape from his own creation and find something more significant to ground himself in.
