James Brown: After 21 Years, Still Refusing To Lose...
Cliff White, Black Music, April 1977
A MONTHLY magazine cannot attempt to match the ephemeral topicality of a weekly news-sheet, particularly, a monthly magazine that works within the rigid structure of one of the world's largest publishing corporations. It has to have a different function. Ideas for issues are mooted months in advance of publication, assignments are allocated when it's still not certain whether they'll be relevant on the day of judgement, editorial deadlines are many weeks before the final copy hits your local newsagent.
