WELL, HE went on. Stood out there in the spotlight and sang. Out in the street the freeloaders and ticket beggars were truly frenzied, having harder luck than Bangladesh in coaxing tickets out of the affluent. People turned up to see if what The Village Voice casually called "everybody's tragic drunk" would turn up. And if he turned up, would fall over. Not perhaps the best atmosphere, but news of his Los Angeles debut exhibition traveled.
