Julian Palacios: Lost In The Woods
Gavin Martin, Uncut, July 1998
POSSIBLY THE most quixotically gifted musician of his generation, Roger Syd Barrett son of the Cambridge flatlands and short-lived London underground starchild is the ultimate Sixties casualty. Withdrawing from public life just after his 24th birthday and making his last spookily appropriate appearance at a Floyd recording session on the day they completed their 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond' tribute, Barrett's recorded legacy shows both his mind-boggling brilliance and his sad descent into mental illness.
