Party Town: New Orleans
Simon Witter, unpublished, May 1988
2002 note: I went to New Orleans to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers in Dec 87, took a week's holiday there with photographer Chris Clunn, and travelled around Louisiana having extraordinary luck running into people at the suggestion of friends and locals. None of that is recorded here however. This is a piece I wrote for the NME after I'd been at the jazzfest five months later, filming two documentaries for German TV. By that time I was totally in love with New Orleans and just felt that I should write a piece capturing some of the town's magic, and including a few quotes from some of the local characters and celebs I'd met. It's a bit bizarre of form, and the NME refused to run it, despite the fact that I had some decent pictures, but I think there are some really good bits within it.
Total word count of piece: 5056
