Rank And File: A String Tie And Safety Pin Affair
Joe Sasfy, Unicorn Times, February 1983
I LIKED Rank And File's music from the moment I heard a demo tape of theirs in Joe Patoski's livingroom in Austin in mid-1981. I took the band to heart when they made their first D.C. appearance at the 9:30 Club, opening for the Bongos, that fall. With about five people present, they rocked like the whole history of country music depended on it. When I got the first album by this Austin quartet, Sundown, I was happy it sounded as vibrant and exuberant as the live RAF. Their recent appearance at the PsycheDelly in December showed that this band's high energy hoedown, a bacchanalian affair for sure, can't be (ahem) corralled on vinyl.
