Rolling Stones: Goats Head Soup (RS Records)
Charlie Gillett, Let It Rock, November 1973
THE CONTEST for the title of The Worlds' Greatest Rock 'n' Roll Band is like those dance marathons that were held in the States during the Depression, pictured in the suitably boring film They Shoot Horses Don't They? Bands zoom into the spotlight and dazzle us with brilliance, but it's all to no avail if they can't keep it up. Just by hanging on in there, the Stone have finally outlasted their rivals, and Goats Head Soup may turn out to be their first LP which is unquestionably the best rockin' groove of its time.
