LOS ANGELES — Steely Dan has drifted in and out of public view since the group's songwriting team — guitarist Walter Becker and pianist Donald Fagen — were smuggled into ABC-Dunhill by their producer, Gary Katz, four years ago. There, disguised as staff songwriters, they concocted a six-man vehicle for their admittedly "warped" songs, named the group after a dildo in Naked Lunch, and hit it big.
