The Doobie Brothers: Cycles

Tom Graves, Rock and Roll Disc, July 1989

WHEN IN DOUBT, regroup. At least that seems to be the formula these days for the rock era's dinosaurs, has-beens, and once-wases. This summer alone we have seen precarious repairings of such nettlesome personalities as Grace Slick and Marty Blain (Jefferson Airplane), super-snitch Gregg Allman with Dickey Betts (Allman Bros.), and Rick Wakeman with Jon Anderson (Yes, or whatever the new name is). And of course there's the Doobie Brothers, minus grey-haired heart-throb Michael McDonald, who have been forgotten by everyone except the AOR radio programmers who make sure 'China Grove' is played at least once every hour.
