The Irishness on the Inside of Bono and U2

There is a shop off Dublin’s O’Connell Street called Bonavox Hearing Aids. It has a neat window display featuring bean-sized aids in velvet presentation boxes alongside the appropriate literature. Paul Hewson became Bono because someone in his teenage days thought it would be fun to rename him after a shop. In his earliest Irish interviews (1978) he was being referred to as "Paul Hewson (aka Bono Vox)".
