Thomas Dolby: Town And Country Club, London

Helen Mead, New Musical Express, 7 May 1988

THOMAS DOLBY is a musical Fagin. In his top hat and gutter-sweeping coat he has to pick a pocket or two but has this small problem. What with one eye on 10cc and the other on Yes, he can't see he's got his ideas crossed. Meanwhile, in a momentary lapse of good taste, his third eye is firmly fixed on supafunk. Typically, though, when Thomas got to work with one of the greats of the genre, George Clinton, it was as part of the soundtrack for the movie Howard The Duck. In other words the man is a quack.
