WIRE WERE from the very outset a conceptually intriguing collective, even though they bristled with a potential that was all too often offset by niggling pretensions. A daunting experience when it first appeared, the debut Pink Flag album matched bruisingly concise lyrical sketches against unadorned punk rock minimalism to disarming effect.
