Jackson Browne: This Wheel's on Fire
Paul Nelson, Rolling Stone, 9 March 1978
LIKE MOST good artists, Jackson Browne is capable of doing more than one thing at a time, so it's no surprise that Running on Empty, his fifth and fastest-selling album, boasts two separate and unusual experiments. To my knowledge, no rock artist has ever fashioned a live LP entirely of previously unrecorded material. Nor has anyone ever attempted such an ambitious aural documentary about the lives of musicians on the road.
