OCCUPYING ROUGHLY the same area in the impressively wide spectrum of contemporary Black music, these two orchestras both play for dancers but nevertheless perform entirely different secondary functions. Both are septets, with brass-and-reed front lines and a multiple-keyboard capability, both are ultimately concerned with the texture of their sound on record, yet there the similarity virtually ends.
