Aqualung: Playhouse, London
David Sinclair, The Times, 9 November 2002
IT HAS BEEN A SWIFT and unexpected rise to the surface for Aqualung, and there were times during their debut live performance on Wednesday when it seemed as if the singer, pianist and composer Matt Hales may have been suffering from the bends. He seemed little short of thunderstruck to discover that a capacity crowd of 790 people had actually turned up to watch him play. “Who are you all?” he demanded to know, several times. We might well ask the same of him.
