AN ACQUIRED TASTE at the best of times, David Sylvian did not make life easy for himself or his extraordinarily loyal following at the Festival Hall. In a career which has taken many esoteric twists since the dissolution of his fondly remembered group Japan in 1982, the singer has not made an album that is more wilfully awkward and uneasy on the ear than his current release, Blemish.
