Grace Jones: A Grace Apart

Paul Rambali, The Face, July 1981

Biographies of Grace Jnes used to describe her as the icy six-foot goddess of all that is perverse, decadent and nocturnal. Grace Jones was a statue cast in cold-blooded ebony... a virtual parody of all the then current criticisms of disco: a soul-less, glossy package. In fact, she is nothing of the sort. She is five feet five inches tall, she laughs at her own jokes, and beneath the padded shoulder-line, she is lithe, soft and surprisingly feminine.
