WHILE THE PRESS has been busily lavishing attention on punk bands, a new wave of groups has been quietly – well, not exactly quietly – staking its claim in the heavy-metal arena. Van Halen is the most successful of the new breed, AC/DC is on the rise and Tuesday night Judas Priest arrived for its first headlining concert at Santa Monica Civic.
