BY NOW it should be pretty damn clear to anybody with ears that these guys are no novelty act ready to fade back into the barrio once the hype wears off. In fact, what has happened is that Los Lobos have brought their rich musical hybrid, spawned of Tex-Mex music, Western swing, hard-edged r&b, urban blues, folky psychedelia — you name it into the mainstream — with a vengeance.
