Neil Sedaka: Solitaire (RCA)

John Pidgeon, Let It Rock, March 1973

WAY BACK IN 1959, Sedaka was a teenage songwriting prodigy. He wrote a love song to an equally precocious girl who worked in the same office – Carole King – and recorded it himself. 'Oh Carol' was a hit both sides of the Atlantic; "Oh Carol, I am but a fool; darling, I love you though you treat me cruel". She did too, and married the other guy. End of love story.
