Porno For Pyros: Good God's Urge (Warner Bros.)

RJ Smith, Spin, July 1996

"HERE WE go!" went the opening words of Jane's Addiction's terminal record, Ritual de lo Habitual. Perry Farrell was blasting off like a bat out of a bomb shelter, beating like hell for whatever transgressive limits occurred to him when he woke up that evening. Here we go: Jane's was always about the group experience, the melding of the individual into the mass. They projected utopian myths of the '60s as surely as they heralded the rave scene that was exploding just as Jane's was flaring out. Nobody young enough to have been Jerry Garcia's paperboy ever believed in a "we" so resolutely as Farrell.
