AT A TIME when most prominent black groups are, like Public Enemy, Living Colour and De La Soul, post-hip-hop upstarts, Andrew Roachford is a determinedly conservative bandleader. On this debut LP, the twenty-four-year-old singer, songwriter and keyboardist from South London demonstrates a strong grasp of classic R&B structures and demonstrates both the joys and pitfalls of musical fealty.
