Shelby Lynne: Suiting Herself

David Burke, R2/Rock'n'Reel, November 2010

"I ALWAYS COME off to cats like you as negative, but it's not that way. I'm just honest." Shelby Lynne's been explaining what it is she finds rotten at the heart of the music industry and why, after two decades recording for the likes of Epic, Island and Capitol, she's established her own label, Everso. "I got tired of the same old routine. It was starting to be a real drag every time I made a record … to have to go through the same agony every time. I thought, what the hell. I know how to put out a record after twenty years. So I threw it all out there … see what happens. So far, so good."
