Sniff 'n' The Tears: The Game's Up (Chiswick)
Deanne Pearson, The Face, August 1980
IT'S DIFFICULT to see how and why, at first, Chiswick, a R&R and punk label predominantly, are involved with a band such as Sniff 'n' The Tears. They play American West Coast-orientated rock, thousands of miles (6000 to be precise) away from what's going on in the here and now, music with all the grating, mournful and implied-profound vocals of a pre-religious Dylan, laced and (somehow) updated with the distinctive twang, whining guitars and skittering keyboards of Dire Straits.
