THE COMMODORES have attained a peak that no black group before them has ever been able to attain. For 1978, they were the fourth best selling act in America – a position that no black group has ever managed before. And their nationwide tour last year grossed more than any tour by a black act has ever tallied before. Their new album, Midnight Magic, has just been released and early indications suggest that it could be their biggest yet. Thus, the timing of this in-depth interview with Commodore William King could not have been better.
