The man who'd barely heard of Brenda Lee (she married him)
Maureen Cleave, The Evening Standard, 14 November 1964
BRENDA LEE turned professional when she was six; she had actually been singing for two years before that. She appeared on the Steve Allen show and signed her contract with Decca Records in America when she was 10; when she was, 12 she came to London to appear on 6.5 Special; not until she was 14 did she have a hit, but by this stage the French, unnerved by such precocity, had put about the rumour that she was a 32-year-old midget.
