Thin Lizzy: Johnny the Fox (Mercury)

Stephen Demorest, Circus, 28 February 1977

THIN LIZZY live and die by a sometimes ingenuous, sometimes embarrassing bravura. They are a strong, quick, and occasionally clever band, and on their four Mercury albums — Nightlife, Fighting, Jailbreak, and Johnny the Fox — they've fashioned a feisty mythology for themselves. On cuts like 'Showdown', 'Wild One', 'Romeo and the Lonely Girl', and last summer's 'The Boys Are Back in Town', leader Phil Lynott tells sympathetic, romantic tales of street heroes who prowl through life with a hunger for adventure.
