CAB CALLOWAY was something of a superstar by 1943. A would-be Harlem Globetrotter, he'd had that possible career nixed by his big sister Blanche, who led a very successful big band, which he joined for a while, eventually becoming a favourite at Harlem's Cotton Club. where he led his own band.
