Eurythmics: Savage (RCA)

Glenn O'Brien, Spin, March 1988

THE EURYTHMICS radiate a released sensibility. They break out of the groove bondage that has become endemic, out into wide open head spaces where anything is possible and what's positive is probable. That's the magic of rock 'n' roll and the Eurythmics are among the few great practitioners of white (with a tan) magic music. Savage is about bringing the magic back. It's savagery in the good sense of the world. I know I like being called savage. It's a whole lot better than being called primitive, aboriginal or postmodern. It's French for wild.
