Jeff Beck: Truth (Epic)
Gary Lucas, Cogito, 23 August 1968
THE YARDBIRDS have the dubious distinction of being the group that every major English guitarist has left. Perhaps their best asset was the one who stayed the longest, Jeff Beck. His work, if one cares to trace back through past albums was, in a word, revolutionary. The sitar like sound of 'Over Under Sideways Down', the jazz influenced 'Jeff's Boogie', the distorted 'Happenings Ten Years Time Ago' — all belonged to Beck alone. (Beck, it will be remembered was the overzealous guitarist who smashed his guitar and amplifier in the movie Blow Up.)
