Madhouse: 8 (Warner Bros/Paisley Park)

Jim Sullivan, The Boston Globe, 5 March 1987

OK ROCK SLEUTHS. It's time to hunt for those context clues. Madhouse's debut album, 8, comes our way courtesy of Paisley Park, the custom label of the prolific purple parader. But there's precious little information given on 8's jacket or sleeve. No musicians are listed and the eight instrumentals, in a jazz/funk/rock vein, are numbered 'One' through 'Eight'. There are bits of crosstalk on one track, orgasmic sighs bridging two others and the question "Who?" repeated throughout the LP's gentle closer. So, are we to assume this is the work of Prince (and company?) incognito and on a jazzy lark?
