The Haunted Saga of Tim Hardin

Mitchell Cohen, Music Aficionado, November 2019

TIM HARDIN DIED in December 1980, not quite a week after his 39th birthday, and to the extent that his passing was felt in the musical world, it paled when contrasted to the recent killing of John Lennon. Hardin was, to most people, a dimly-recalled figure from the late 1960s, a singer-songwriter who performed on the first night of the Woodstock festival but never made it to the film or albums, who never placed an album in Billboard's top 100, whose only sort-of-hit single was a song written by someone else.
